The story of the place
You stay in the heart of Roslagen's history
Östanå is the oldest manor in the area, with roots reaching back to the Middle Ages. The estate is first mentioned in 1433 and over the centuries has belonged to several of Sweden's most powerful families: Banér, Bååt, Fleming and Wrede.
In the 1690s the Lord High Marshal Fabian Wrede had a stately manor built, with a garden inspired by French models. On 17 August 1718 the castle was burned down by Russian troops during the Great Northern War. The present neoclassical castle was built between 1791 and 1794.
In 2017 Jens Lackmann bought the whole castle estate and restored it. Today the castle grounds are the heart of Destination Östanå, with the baroque park's avenue, Restaurang Vin & Vänner in the old grain store and guided history tours. With us at Havscamp you stay next door to all of this.
From sawmill to havscamp
Old industrial history becomes a nature camp
Where the camp lies today once stood Östanå såg, the estate sawmill. Timber was sawn here at Sågviken for generations, first by steam power and later, from the 1950s, in a new mill driven by crude-oil engines and electricity. Some of the buildings from the sawmill era still stand on the site.
Now the old industrial site is getting a new life. We are turning a piece of Swedish industrial history into a nature camp with the forest and the archipelago landscape all around, and with all of Destination Östanå around the corner: Östanå Slott, Restaurang Vin & Vänner, the ferry out into the archipelago and the walking trails through the countryside.
Be with us from the very beginning. The journey starts now.
